Viscoelasticity of the mouse hippocampus and the influence of enriched environment

We applied MRE to study the viscoelasticity of the
hippocampus in the mouse, and examined the changes in
tissue mechanical property under the influence of
enriched environment (EE). In normal mouse brain, we
found that hippocampus tissue is more elastic and less
viscous compared to the rest of the brain. We also
observed an increase in G″ (viscosity) in mice exposed
to an enriched environment, which might relate to
newborn neurons which are not yet fully integrated into
the neuronal network.
