Two versions of a modified 13 C INEPT sequence were considered at 3 T. The difference between the two versions is the location of the 13 C inversion pulse, namely, 1/4J CH after the first proton pulse or 1/4J CH before the third proton pulse. Heteronuclear product operator calculations predict that the outcome should be the same. Our results show that the response of 13 C 3 -glutamate significantly differs depending on the 13 C inversion pulse location. The signal is higher when the pulse is placed at the beginning of the sequence. The difference in response is due to strong homonuclear coupling between the glutamate protons.
