On the Use of DSC-MRI for Measuring Vascular Permeability

Leakage of contrast agent can confound DSC-MRI
measurements, necessitating correction techniques.
Parameters relating to contrast extravasation (

can be extracted from these techniques. Dual
gradient-echo acquisitions also mitigate leakage effects
and allow the extraction of T
1
-weighted data
and subsequently the computation of DCE-MRI parameters
K
trans
and
v
e
.
Using dual-echo DSC-MRI, these parameters were
simultaneously compared. A poor voxel-wise correlation
was found between
K
2
and
K
a
and
K
trans
,
potentially attributed to competing T
1
and
T
2
* leakage effects and echo time dependence.
A strong correlation was observed, however, between
K
2
and
K
a
and
v
e
,
suggesting a relationship with the extravasation space.
