Characterization
of vortex formation and flow within the heart may be used as tool for
diagnosing and understanding pathophysiological conditions of the heart. We present preliminary results
demonstrating that phase contrast magnetic resonance imaging may be used to
quantitatively evaluate and characterize formation of vortices within blood
flow in the left ventricle of the heart.
