Anti-correlation
between the default mode network and an extended dorsal attention system has
been previously observed in resting-state fMRI. Here we report on the
presence of regions that anti-correlate with the visual cortex in
resting-state fMRI at 7T. This activity occurs in proximity of the ependymal
vascularization of the ventricular system, is modulated by behavioral state
and is not an artifact due to head motion, heartbeat or respiration. The
findings are consistent with a blood volume increase of veins downstream from
visual areas.
