The aim of the present study was to implement a
non-invasive in vivo diffusion tensor imaging (DTI)
protocol in the tiny zebra finch. To test for the
sensitivity of the optimized sequence, we tried to
visualize known (histology) sexual dimorphisms in adult
zebra finches. We found the known dimorphisms and
illustrate the benefit of using whole-brain in vivo MRI
by revealing novel, unexplored sexual dimorphisms in the
adult zebra finch brain.
