Connecting an ablation electrode directly to the coil port of the MR scanner, makes it possible to use the RF power provided from the MR device for ablation therapies. With this, the RF power for ablation is determined by the imaging sequence. The scanner remote control interface was used to implement a control algorithm, which can adjust the RF power for ablation in dependence of the temperature development. This allows a desired temperature range to be maintained during ablation with an MRI ablation hybrid system and prevents carbonization next to the electrode.
