We assess the feasibility and the value of amide proton transfer-weighted (APTw) MRI in identifying viable malignant glioma. 22 patients with suspected recurrent glioma following chemoradiation were scanned at 3T. A total of 64 stereotactic biopsy specimens were obtained from gadolinium-enhancing regions of interest with varying APTw signals, 47 of which were histopathologically assigned as recurrent tumor and 17 treatment effects.
