Standard cardiac T
1
mapping
generates image artifacts in patients with implantable
cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD). We propose to perform
successful cardiac T
1
mapping
in patients with ICD by incorporating a saturation
radio-frequency pulse with wide frequency bandwidth (8.9
kHz). In 11 subjects with ICD, compared with T
1
measurements
produced by standard T
1
mapping
without ICD as the control, T
1
measurements
by standard T
1
mapping
with ICD were significantly different (p < 0.05),
whereas T
1
measurements
by wideband T
1
mapping
with ICD were not significantly different. This study
demonstrates the feasibility of wideband cardiac AIR T
1
mapping
for suppressing artifacts induced by ICD.
