Structural MRI changes were assessed in 19 Writers
Cramp (WC) primary dystonia patients and 30 healthy
controls, analyzing both gray and white matter
differences. WC patients showed a diffuse pattern of
cortical volume and area increase, as well as a diffuse
pattern of WM damage involving both sensorimotor and
extra-sensorimotor regions. These findings suggest a
complex network dysfunction playing a role in the
development of focal hand dystonia. Structural and DT
MRI hold promise to achieve a better in vivo
understanding of such an enigmatic disease.
