Normobaric oxygen (NBO) increases brain oxygenation,
thereby minimizing ischemia-like injury. The goal of
this study was to investigate the neuroprotective effect
of normobaric oxygen (NBO) following traumatic brain
injury (TBI) as measured by lesion volume and functional
outcome measures. This study demonstrates that NBO
exacerbates lesion volume compared to air-treated
animals associated with TBI. NBO did not worsen or
improve behavioral outcome measures.
