Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) and finite
difference time domain (FDTD) simulations are employed to design a novel alternating
impedance microstrip resonator (MSR) transceiver array for 7T MRI. The
resulting design uses non-uniform spacing of impedance elements to control
the B1+ field distribution and improve the peak B1+ value. Comparisons are
shown between the optimized geometry, a traditional straight MSR and an
alternating impedance MSR with uniformly spaced circular impedance elements.
