differentiation of hepatic adenoma (HA) and focal nodular hyperplasia (FNH) is important because HAs are often resected due to risk of hemorrhage and risk of malignant degeneration, while FNHs require no intervention. Characterization of HA vs. FNH with extracellular gadolinium-based contrast-agents is challenging because imaging characteristics during dynamic contrast imaging can be similar. The recent FDA approval of a new hepatobiliary agent (gadoxetic acid) offers new opportunities to characterize HA and FNH. However, there are very few reported cases with pathological-imaging correlation. In this work, we report the imaging characteristics of 6 histologically proven HA and 34 FNH lesions.
