In this work we present the first in vivo assessment of glutamate levels in different regions of the brain in 11-month-old Tg2576 mouse at 9.4 T. This metabolite is less studied in Alzheimers disease (AD) since detection of this metabolite is challenging in clinical field strengths. In this study, highly significant decrease in glutamate/total creatine has been observed in the cortex region of the transgenic mice compared to wild type mice. The early decrease in glutamate level in the cortex regions of the transgenic mouse can be correlated with previously reported cognitive impairment in this mouse model of AD.
