MRgFUS is being applied to the non-invasive treatment of an exciting array of applications. Thermal ablation in body applications includes uterine fibroids, palliation for painful bone metastases, and tumors in the breast, prostate, and abdominal organs. In the brain, trials have been held for neuropathic pain, essential tremor, and tumors. MRgFUS is also being used for improved drug delivery via heat sensitive liposomes and by opening the blood brain barrier. Basic science research includes ultrasound-based modulation of neuronal firing. The future of MRgFUS holds new non-invasive treatments and also an exciting array of technical and scientific innovations.
