In vivo monitoring of vascular remodeling after myocardial infarction can yield useful insights in the progression of global left ventricular (LV) remodeling. Extravascular contrast agents as Gd-DTPA have limited potential due to their nonspecific cardiac distribution. Therefore, the use of paramagnetic lipid-based nanoparticles was explored in acute and chronic phases of myocardial infarction with in vivo MRI and ex vivo CLSM.
