Motion
correction is critical in diffusion weighted (DW) imaging, but the motion correction
quality depends on the accurate motion estimation of the DW images. However,
the motion estimation of the DW images can be sensitive to the anisotropic
white matter. This has been confirmed using the DW images obtained from an
anesthetized and immobilized monkeys head and from a volunteers head. The
error in the motion estimation was increased significantly at a higher b
value such as b=2400 s/mm2. It is required to develop a new method
of motion estimation that is insensitive to the white matter anisotropy.
