Triple
Inversion Recovery Imaging of the ventricular myocardium is sensitive to
myocardial edema due to injury from a severe vascular event. Transmural
myocardial infarcts were accurately identified relative to delayed contrast
enhancement in 81% of positive cases of myocardial edema. The absence of
edema in a patient with initial symptoms of chest pain and a positive
electrocardiogram or coronary catheterization suggests a favorable functional
outcome.
