Resting
state BOLD data were collected before and after the injection of a 2.5mg/kg
dose of caffeine. Caffeine is a known vasoconstrictor and neural stimulant.
Correlation analysis was completed that demonstrated global decreases in
connectivity. The default mode network had the largest decrease due to
changes in physiology and alertness induced by caffeine. The result
demonstrates that the resting state BOLD signal is a mixture of neural and
physiologic signals and needs to be interpreted with caution.
