Neural
progenitor cells (NPCs) and glioma cells share many common features,
including the expression of several cellular markers (such as nestin and
CD133), a robust proliferative potential, and pluripotency. The present study
demonstrates that tumors exhibited rapid growth following NPCs
transplantation while the migration was promoted by the signaling of the
stromal cellVderived factor-1 (SDF-1) / CXC chemokine receptor 4 (CXCR4)
axis. The finding identified a role of NPCs in tumor expansion.
