MRI
of the awake human retina is challenging because the thin retina is located
in a region of high magnetic susceptibility, is susceptible to eye motion and
high resolution is needed. This study successfully demonstrated for the first
time MRI anatomical laminar resolution of the in vivo human retina at 3 T.
Laminar thicknesses were quantified. Potential challenges, solutions and
outlooks for future applications are discussed.
