TRASE
is a new k-space imaging method which uses transmit RF phase gradients for
spatial encoding instead of B0-gradients. RF coil design is particularly
important for TRASE as the image quality largely depends upon the RF phase
gradient fields. Here we report an improved design for a sine profile field,
which is a necessary component of an RF phase gradient set. By considering
the concomitant z-directed RF field, and by 2D and 3D simulations, a double
Maxwell design was arrived at and constructed. The double Maxwell coil shows
a 91% larger imaging volume than the previous single Maxwell design.
