Time-varying,
non-temperature dependent phase changes affect the accuracy of conventional
phase difference proton resonance frequency shift (PRFS) temperature mapping
in the breast. We demonstrate a
fat-referenced PRFS technique capable of correcting for this phase variation.
This new approach reduced temperature measurement error in the left breast by
a factor of 3.6 and in the right breast by a factor of 2.5 when compared to
conventional phase difference techniques (n
= 1).
