The objective of the present study was to use MEMRI to study the functional connection from the medial thalamus. Manganese ions were deposited into the medial thalamus of the rat. Noxious electrical stimulation of the contralateral forepaw was performed for 5 hr. Significantly stronger Mn T1 signals were found throughout the ACC and the medial caudate-putamen in comparison to the nave, innocuous and morphine-pretreated control groups. Therefore, we concluded that MEMRI is useful to reveal the fine spatial details of the function of the medial pain pathway
