In this study hippocampal metabolite alterations in 1H-MR Spectroscopy (1H-MRS) were correlated to findings of intensive video-EEG monitoring and duration of clinical features in TLE-patients. Seizures were analysed by frequency of interictal epileptiform discharges (IEDs), ictal activity and duration of clinical symptoms. Significant negative correlation was found between tNAA and degree of IEDs. Duration of clinical symptoms and tNAA/Cr ratio were significant inversely rated. Our study supports that 1H-MRS is able to refer severity of TLE in which tNAA reduction correlates with degree of interictal spiking. Duration of clinical symptoms correlated with increased Cr signal probably reflecting increased energy metabolism.
