Our previous research suggested independent detrimental effects of chronic cigarette smoking on gray matter (GM) volumes in major lobes, neuronal and cell membrane viability in frontal lobes, as well as perfusion of frontal and parietal GM. Here, we used DTI to assess the effects of concurrent alcohol dependence and chronic cigarette smoking on white matter microstructure.
