Voxel Based Morphometry (VBM) studies are an unbiased statistical selection of anatomical differences that can localize cerebral structures that differ between populations. These kind of studies provided in vivo evidence, of the plastic changes that took place as reorganization in pre-motor cortex of lower limb amputees. The use of VBM helped localize differences in brain structures in particular in pre-motor cortex (BA6) between right lower limb amputees and control subjects.
