Relaxation times (T1 and T2) of bone marrow protons and trabecular bone volume fraction (TBVF) of the calcaneus were measured for 100 female subjects. It was found and suggested that relaxation times of bone marrow protons have no correlation with TBVF and T1 has a definite correlation with elastic or mechanical property of the bone marrow. Distribution of T2 of bone marrow protons was relatively small compared with that of T1. As a result it was concluded that T2 correction scan could be skipped for adult healthy subjects, which could reduce the examination time to 50%.
