We report the first study to compare the effect of moderate intensity endurance exercise on intramyocellular lipids (IMCL) utilization as measured with three methods: non-invasively using 1H MRS and two invasive techniques: Oil-Red-O (ORO) staining and a biochemical assay. Both 1H MRS and ORO staining revealed equal IMCL breakdown during exercise whereas no decrease could be detected whenever IMCL content was analyzed biochemically.
