The purpose of this study was to investigate age-related differences in brain iron in adolescents and adults by using magnetic field correlation (MFC) imaging, a novel quantitative MRI method for estimating brain iron. The MFC is a sensitive measure of the regional distribution of iron in the brain, and can be measured using an asymmetric spin echo sequence. We have previously provided feasibility of this method in-vivo. In this abstract, we have measured regional brain MFC values in both normal adolescents and adults, and have correlated the MFC with putative iron concentrations.
