Parallel imaging and excitation techniques require the acquisition of excitation and sensitivity field maps of patients. In this study we compared an experimental B1+ field mapping technique with FDTD simulations of the same patient pelvis anatomy. We obtained a very well agreement between measurements and simulations. The B1+ distribution is built up of a global pattern caused by the elliptical human pelvis plus a local anatomy dependent part. While the measured B1+ maps show more details, the electromagnetic simulations also provide information about the receive and electric fields. These methods can be applied to parallel excitation and imaging with transceive coils.
