Conventional heart protection techniques may cause postoperative heart dysfunction or heart failure, particularly in the patients with hypertrophied hearts. The present study was to develop a new heart protection method for protection of hypertrophied hearts. We found that our new technique completely prevented the detrimental effects of the conventional techniques and was able to maintain normal myocardial fluid homeostasis and energy metabolism even in presence of a moderate coronary stenosis.
