The purpose of this work was to demonstrate the feasibility of prospective MR image registration of high-resolution trabecular bone images of the tibia. The registration technique, which is based on mutual information, utilizes a baseline and a follow-up scan to compute registration parameters that are subsequently used to prescribe an aligned follow-up acquisition. Results suggest that there is a possibility that this algorithm is robust enough to be used in several different musculoskeletal imaging applications.
