The aim of this study was to qualitatively and quantitatively assess parametric HPI maps obtained using DCE-MRI in a group of Phase I clinical trial patients with metastatic liver disease. MR signal intensities were converted to gadolinium concentrations and the HPI values were calculated from the DCE-MRI concentration-time curves. Qualitative analysis of HPI maps in patients with metastatic liver disease showed striking increase in relative arterial perfusion around hepatic metastases. Quantitative measurements of whole liver and tumoral HPIs showed good reproducibility. Quantitative HPI therefore, may be investigated as a potential marker for treatment response in clinical drug trials.
