The vessel size index (VSI) provides information on the distribution of vessel radii in a voxel. It can be obtained by measuring the changes in R2 and in R2* induced by the injection of an intravascular contrast agent, the apparent diffusion coefficient, and the variation of susceptibility difference between blood and tissue before and after contrast injection. Since VSI depends on numerous factors, this study aims to characterize each contribution to the error on VSI so as to estimate the smallest change in VSI that can be detected and to identify directions for acquisition scheme optimization.
