A new approach is proposed to investigate the effects of motion upon the accuracy of fMRI studies. In this approach an fMRI experiment is conducted during which the entire planned stack of slices is moved between scans, according to precisely defined motion parameters. By comparing the activation map obtained this way to that obtained in a standard fMRI experiment, effect of (task-correlated) motion can be studied. The method is applied to investigate the effects of task-correlated motion such as observed in an fMRI study of hemiparetic children, upon the accuracy of the inferred BOLD activation maps in that study.
