Quantification of sodium in healthy cervical cord using prior knowledge

In tissue 23 Na T 2 relaxation is bi-exponential, resulting in a short T 2 and a long T 2 fraction. We have developed 23 Na MRS protocols (FUSS and FAHS) both based on ISIS for 23 Na-MRS of the spinal cord. Both sequences result in a single resonance and similar SNR. A single resonance is often fit to a single peak, however as the bi-exponential behavior of sodium in tissue is known this information could also be factored into the analysis. Here we investigate mono-exponential, bi-exponential and combination fits to the data to determine the most accurate quantification method.
