The classification of cartilage in the wrist by means of T 1 lower case Greek rho MRI requires ultra-high spatial resolutions. While T 1 lower case Greek rho sequences coincide with long and strong B1+ fields, we demonstrate that a SAR optimized coil can provide uncompromised T 1 lower case Greek rho MRI of the wrist even at 7T. Demonstrated with strong and uniform spin locking fields, combined with 32 channel receivers, quantified 0.5 mm isotropic T 1 lower case Greek rho are obtained of cartilage in the wrist.
